    Hi there,

I would like to use three 2.5″ disks with the espressobin (1 connected through SATA port and 2 with a miniPCI-e to SATA adapter). I am trying to find a way to power up all these. To avoid using multiple power supply and plug sockets I am wondering if it is possible/safe to power everything from the board molex connector.

My plan is to use a 12v/5A barrel jack power supply which can produce enough current to supply the board and the disks, but because I am not a hardware kind of guy I am afraid that doing so could harm the board. Let’s say that all the 3 disks are busy and draw the maximum current they need, would the board support it or something could fry or maybe a fuse could prevent drawing that much power and the disks won’t have enough to work ?

Or maybe, if it is not safe to do so, if one of you have a better idea to have a single power supply for all these (a dual voltage power supply maybe ?) that would be nice.

    Thanks

We don’t suggest you using 2 HDD at the same time. It might over MAX current value for ESPRESSObin.

    Hi,

Thank you for your answer, I decided to power the disks separately.

Out of curiosity do you know what the actual MAX current value is ?

    Thanks
