OpenWrt as I vaguely remember has disabled recovery after kernel panic and is set to reboot if it occurs.

As final note, one person in this forum recommends different approach:

    Qualcomm Atheros Device abcd

It’ worth to give it a try. I hope You’ll get it working eventually, I’ve run out of ideas, good luck.

Everything is written at Espressobin download page: https://www.armbian.com/espressobin

Just read it carefully. Than you will know which file you need and how to recover in case you brick the board.

would you mind testing out your atheros QCWB335 with current archlinux-arm ? Mine is still a no go, but if it works for you then it would probably means my hardware is just faulti, not sure which, the card or my adapter. I’ll try to get my father to take a picture of my board, maybe someone who can actually see and knows a thing about the ebin or pcie in general would spot something we did the wrong way…
Also it would be nice if you could post the boot log or dmesg, and lspci.
    Thank you 🙂

Sure. I just booted the espressobin with the old Arch that had worked.
Here is the boot log, dmesg, lspci etc:

I am now going to update Arch. Just need to set up the ethernet again, currently the routes are messed up and I can’t update 😉

Somehow my posts don’t get displayed!? So again:

I updated Arch (pacman -Syu) and now get this boot log, lspci, dmesg:

Wifi is working fine with the new kernel. Should I try something else? Start with a fresh Arch image?

Thank you for your help !
You made me realize that my u-boot was one version behind i.e: armada 17.06 when yours was 17.10. I actually thought I grabbed 17.10 when I updated mine 2 days ago, but was probably so tired that I failed to notice.
What a miracle can a bootloader update perform… It was actually some kind of pcie bug in the earlier bootloader, just like the armada 17.03 was so messed up it only posted non posted pio status. It made me believe all was working fine when it was not.

    @armbian
I did read carefully and then went on the download page, but I could not find the right u-boot in all the images you keep, or I would have upgraded to this instead.
Thanks a lot to everyone who helped in this, really !
