    Hi there.

Did you successfully managed to boot Espresso from SATA using prebuilt image? How did you do this? I was trying to follow instructions from wiki, but I only got TIM-1 prompt. What block 0 means? I just dd’ed the image to /dev/sdb. Should I do something more?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi @gonzopancho

any news on making pfSense run on eMMC? Otherwise I’m happy to test it from USB too.

    cheers

As for me, I never had been able to fix the crashing issue even though I disabled the governor service. I switched to Archlinux and it’s runs pretty solid without crashes (except when playing with GPIO’s). The GPIO’s are a bit problematic though. Most of the pins are not usable.

The problem maybe related to MMC. So I tried to use the GPIO’s in the left side of the board (P9). But, from what I can observe, the GPIO’s in the left side makes the board unresponsive and hangs.

Thanks. I had to use sudo due to permission errors. It’s compressing the file system from my SD card now. Hope it works 😀

One more question, is it possible to bundle the file system in a tarball and just copy it to another SD card?

If I had the time, I would really like to try out your script. But I’ve got really limited time right now. Thanks for your help

I did partition my SD card with single ext4 according to the guide. I switched to Archlinux ARM it’s pretty solid now. No crash running overnight yet.

It’s hot, but I only had experienced a freeze when I tried to play with GPIO. I’m currently compiling nodejs source for hours now. Doing a ‘thumb test’, I feel like my fingers would burn. I can only stand holding it for maximum of 4 seconds. But the system is pretty much stable. I’m using archlinux arm with latest kernel. Worth noting I put a heatsink on it.

Removing dtc package produced the following error:

./scripts/dtc-version.sh: line 17: dtc: command not found
./scripts/dtc-version.sh: line 18: dtc: command not found
*** Your dtc is too old, please upgrade to dtc 1.4 or newer
    make: *** [Makefile:1383: checkdtc] Error 1

I’ll try using armbian build system

Okay that’s strange… unplugged and plugged back in a few times and it works now. Will reply again as I get more info.

    Hi

I was talking about uart1 that can be accessed via pin 24 and pin 26 on P9 GPIO header:

    http://wiki.espressobin.net/tiki-index.php?page=ESPRESSObin+GPIO+LED+blinking

In Linux , its been supported via this patch:

    https://patchwork.ozlabs.org/patch/822320/

    Thanks

I used this card on the espressobin without any issues:

The only problem is that its too short to be properly mounted. Any variant using the Realtek RTL8111E chip should be fine.
